What keeps us happy and healthy as we go through life? If you think it’s fame and money, you’re not alone – but, according to psychiatrist Robert Waldinger, you’re mistaken. As the director of 75-year-old study on adult development, Waldinger has unprecedented access to data on true happiness and satisfaction. In this talk, he shares three important lessons learned from the study as well as some practical, old-as-the-hills wisdom on how to build a fulfilling, long life.

But this study only includes white American succesfull men, then how come the results drawn from that study can apply to all humans? What about women, people from collectivist societies or colored ppl etc. ? They may have different benchmarks, expectations or definitions.. so it kind of seems not representative or maybe biased.
Money and power in today's world can still take away our freedom and hence happiness. Unfortunately, the ones that go for money and power won't leave us alone but using them to strip ours off, thinking they've worked that hard and still not happy, these people who have little money and power do not deserve to be happy or happier than them. That's the sad truth. It's not an easy thing living on this Planet Earth with so many selfish, crooked and twisted minds.
excellent !
Yes, Humanism is the gum, which is the first requirement for bonding whether individual or social.
I’ve watched many utube videos and ted talks, nothing has moved me like this. What an incredible study of humanism. Truly moving. Thank you for sharing xo
Thank you raldinger , you help me to know how to get happier.
you will never experience the feelings from the rich
Booty
I’m gay
I agree to a point. Good relationship doesn't only have to be with your spouse but also with you best friend. I have been very lucky in my life to have both. Money is also important to a point. Studies show if you have about 85K in retirement that is plenty of money to achieve happiness and any more you get demising returns. This is why it is so important to be in the same page with your spouse on retirement, what to do with the kids etc. I a m 56 retiring in exactly 9 months and I can't wait for it.
1st happiness healthy life
Money
Good wife
Good son
I really like his speech. In my opinion, we also need to set some of our differences purpose for doing what we love. That’s life meaning.
Makes total sense!
Thank you for video. It’s a hard work to get good relationships with people around us. Marriage, friendship, co-working circle. Every day during all life. That’s why more people prefer to be alone or don’t care about others.
9:59 (Camera shows old guy) *Awkward silence*
Robert: "Loneliness kills"
Me: "mmmm….guess I'll die"
"Hindsight is anything but 20/20"
The deepness of this pun is amazing.
If you don't get it, there are two meanings:
1- Hindsight is not perfect vision, i.e 20/20, and is therefore not perfect.
2- The year 2020 is not behind, it is forward. So the past is everything except the coming year i.e 2020.
I was so excited to hear his speech, until I realized that it is based on a study that included only men. I hope women's happiness will be valued in the future.
Wow!
The only good relationship you need is with God. There’s your cure to loneliness. God has unconditional love for EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU because WE ARE ALL ONE.
I’m 61, married for 33 years, one daughter 25 years old. Went to college and worked my whole life. Planning to retire at the end of this year. Been lucky, worked hard, lived a good life, very few regrets….hope to be around for many more years. I am no expert but I can offer my thoughts for what they’re worth: pick your relationships based on decency and character, not flash; be prepared to work hard on improving yourself (relationships and education and physical self); live within your means; invest time and money on your health, family first; things don’t last but memories do; and always be thankful. I think as you get older, friends become more important. Good luck to all in finding your own happiness. 👍🏼👍🏼
The most important MESSAGE any where. Honestly. The side effects of being lonely is death . Thank you sir for the most important lesson in life .
money can't buy happiness but it can buy me a boat and truck to pull it!
Maybe the next study will include following the lives of women 🙄
Good talk and nice message. I believe this, I have seen it on my grandparents
And the study was conducted by only studying men… you cannot generalize that result sorry man
It's hard to forge good relationships if man has to take care of his existential needs which take most of his time and energy.
Well than I am probably fucked 😀
now i know
What is he talking about?
Happiness is within you.. Don't ask it from someone else. Be your own saviour. You are very peaceful and strong being alone. First make peace with your self. Then go out to the society. Life is simple. Love, Give, Forgive.
You are loved by the Creator of Heaven and Earth and He calls you into a personal restored relationship with Him,
through His Son and by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus says, "I am the Way the Truth and the Life” Come to Him all who are heavy
laden, burdened by life's problems, depressed and anxious, worried and
conflicted, and He will give you rest. Call on His Name, the Name of Jesus, the
One who has forgiven and redeemed you by His death on the Cross. “God so
loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes on Him shall
not perish, but have everlasting life.”(John 3:16)
Only men? Hmmm.
amazing
2019, and still great
pity you did not think to include WOMEN in the study
